The Fool: As you were growing up (or now, raising children), did your family have any distinctive rituals or practices others might do well to emulate?
elpolvo: My mother used to change husbands about every 3-5 years. Then we'd move and have to start a whole new life and meet new friends etc. This really teaches you how to deal with change but BE CAREFUL. This activity can be hazardous to the mental stability of the participants and should be attempted only under the supervision of trained professionals - DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.

The Fool: What, in your opinion, are some of life's big mysteries?
elpolvo: Why is it that every time I drop something it falls in the least accessible place to retrieve it?
The Fool: Share with us your best money-saving secret. Do you cut coupons? Bring your own candy bars to movies? Shop on Wednesday and pretend you're over 65?
elpolvo: If I told you then it wouldn't be a secret, now would it?
The Fool: If given a second chance, what financial decision would you have made differently?
elpolvo: I'd have held my 1040 shares of AMZN October 27, 1997 instead of trading them for CPQ when the market took a dive. (I'd have over $2 million profit as of April, 1999)
No Guts - No Glory!
The Fool: Describe your fitness program.
elpolvo: Cigar for breakfast, lug a case of beer down to the sailboat, give the command "Prepare to lay about", then lay about. Can of beanie weanies and 2 cigars for supper.
The Fool: If you could be a CEO of any public company, which one and why?
elpolvo: I wouldn't be the CEO, - I'm a support person and I love it. The company is Amazon.com - because they've got the perfect business model for the new paradigm - the network business model. The computers do the work - the employees spend their day finding more ways to make customers happy - fun stuff!
The Fool: Have you had a brush with fame, the proverbial '15 minutes'? Tell us about it.
elpolvo: No. But I've walked in front of the camera to fix things while directing live TV several times.
The Fool: What's your greatest athletic achievement? Little League champ? Ran a marathon? Did 4 consecutive sit-ups?
elpolvo: Won "Best Cruiser" award in Cochiti Sailing Regatta for going below and watching golf on TV during the race. - I never left the dock.

Won 1st place trophy in 3rd flight of Club Championship at The Championship Golf course at UNM about 12 years ago.
The Fool: OK, your favorite non-financial website? (Type URL with http:// to activate.)
elpolvo: Logs of my sailing trips to San Carlos, Mexico.

The Fool: Tell us what your best investment has been so far and how you discovered it.
elpolvo: I find uplifting quotes, words of encouragement, and food for the soul on the web and e-mail a "Thought for Today" every day to my teenage daughter. Here's a sample:

"They say a person needs 3 things to be truly happy in this world, someone to love, something to do, and something to hope for."--- Tom Bodett ---

so...Love your Father, clean your room, and hope it's done before he gets home.
love, dad

It's drawn us much closer. Teenagers don't like to talk to parents - but they don't mind a little e-mail.

The Fool: When you aren't working or sitting in front of the computer, what occupies your time?
elpolvo: Looking for a bumper sticker that says, "I'd rather be golfing" to put on the back of my sail boat and one that says, "I'd rather be sailing" on (you guessed it) the golf cart.
