The Fool: What's the most overrated idea, person, or event in our culture?
fmxa: Windows CE. It's all talk and no walk. I have yet to see it run efficiently on a wearable PC, with an Ni battery that's suppose to have charge life of two days. My battery normally dies after two hours.
The Fool: What's the best product you use that most people don't know about?
fmxa: A head mounted display my friends from Cal Tech hacked for me on Albert Einstein's birthday two years ago. I use it to play virtual reality games in my down-time.
The Fool: Is there someone to whom you'd like to say 'Thank You,' but never had the chance?
fmxa: Niels Bohr. Without him, we wouldn't have Quantum Mechanics. I'd probably be a CS geek, rather than pursuing my passion for physics.
The Fool: What product would you like to see us offer at FoolMart -- www.foolmart.com -- our online store?
fmxa: If you offer electronic components at bargain prices, I'd be interested in doing business. I could organize some groups of students to buy in bulk quantity. These buying circle have not been successful in the past. No one wants to be responsible for taking orders and shipping the components once they arrive. I suppose TMF could be the middleman that handles the duties of order fulfillment. The value would come in skimming a LITTLE off the top . . . or maybe auction the components off to the highest bidder.
The Fool: What's your biggest pet peeve?
fmxa: When my T1 goes down, and I have to go to the media lab at MIT for access. Once the city of Boston was replacing a pipe due to a water main break. They accidentally dug up my fiber optic cable and spliced it in two!
The Fool: Describe the most embarrassing personal moment you'll admit to!
fmxa: When I was 15 years old, I competed in a chess competition hosted at Yale. It was my first year at Princeton, and everyone was surprised I made it to the final round. My parents had driven me to New Haven even though they weren't happy about sacrificing their weekend. I was sick as a dog with the flu, but pretended to be well so that I could compete. During the final round, I sneezed so hard that chess pieces went flying and I sprayed my opponent with a moderate rain shower. I was disqualified for disrupting the game board. My parents were so mad, they wouldn't take me to another chess tournament until I turned 19.
The Fool: What's been your best investment to date, and how did you discover it?
fmxa: SGI, it's my only investment to date.
The Fool: Do you have a favorite company or stock which the worldwide Foolish community should know about -- and why?
fmxa: SGI, no reason other than I have some shares. It was given to me as part of the deal for working there this past summer.
The Fool: List some of your favorite websites, with running commentary where appropriate. (Please provide the URLs, too.)
fmxa: www.nsf.gov (#1 source for science funding)
www.sgi.com (#1 stock I own)
www.media.mit.edu/wearables (fun hobby)
www.cs.cmu.edu/afs/cs.cmu.edu/project/vuman/www/home.html (ditto)
www.fda.gov (I keep up with neuropharmacology in my free time)
