The Fool: What's the best advice you've ever received?
id: Never take anything for granted.
The Fool: If you could go back in time and witness one event in history, what would you go back and see?
id: 1990 at Cambridge. Andrew Wiles, an English mathematician, proved Fermats Last Theorem and announced it to the world. Seven years of single minded effort to solve a problem that had baffled the world's greatest minds for 300 years. In itself, not an earth shattering event, but what a testament to human endeavour.
The Fool: Which celebrity or public figure (past or present) do you most look like?
id: Torn between Queen Elizabeth I, Winston Churchill and Karl Marx.
The Fool: Does ethics or 'socially responsible investing' have a place in your investment approach? How so? How not?
id: Not for myself, although I can see the role it could play for others. Companies that do provide "socially questionable" goods or services are responding to a force of demand, it is here that opprobrium should be aimed. In my view, profit and capital should always be blind, morality can and does cloud the clarity of mind that investing requires. Moral positions can be expressed far more forcefully in other manners.
The Fool: What has been your best work experience, and what made it so great?
id: Making my first correct investment recommendation and realising that large research houses do not have a god-given right to being right.
The Fool: What's been your best investment to date, and how did you discover it?
id: Amazon in the USA. In my previous job as a smaller company corporate financier we floated an internet book retailer on Ofex. During our research we came across Amazon and were invited to take part in its original float. Say no more.
The Fool: Do you have a favorite company or stock which the worldwide Foolish community should know about -- and why?
id: There are many that fit different themes:

Value - BAT, ABF
Global dominance - Diageo
Corporate activity - Allied Domecq
Intriguing Story - Phytopharm, Nycomed Amersham, Gyrus
The Fool: List some of your favorite websites, with running commentary where appropriate. (Please provide the URLs, too.)
id: www.find.co.uk - Great directory
www.ft.com - All round information source
www.cnbc.com - Companion to the TV show
www.cix.co.uk/~ptemple/linksite/ - Useful links
