| The Fool: | When you aren't working or sitting in front of the computer, what occupies your time? |
| tmfparlay: |
I'm a recent transplant from Chicago to Southwest Colorado, and my wife and I spend a lot of time renovating our 70's-a-riffic log house. Between enjoying all Colorado has to offer (skiing, hiking, biking, etc), we spend most of our time plotting how to get rid of orange countertops and shag carpeting! Chopping wood for heat and moving snow (10 feet so far this season) so we don't get marooned are also big time consumers. |
| The Fool: | What's your biggest pet peeve? |
| tmfparlay: | People driving slow in the left lane. Did you ever notice how people who drive faster than you are "maniacs" while those who drive slower are "idiots"? (But now that we live 200+ miles from the nearest Interstate, I don't get bothered by this nearly as much.) |
| The Fool: | Did you ever do something as a child that you look back on now and say, 'Wow, I'm lucky even to be alive after that!' |
| tmfparlay: | Well, maybe not as a child, but in the past few years I have been within 100' of a lightning strike 3 times. The first one was while hiking far above timber-line in Colorado, carrying a backpack full of metal climbing gear, with only knee-high rocks for cover. Pretty scary! The second two actually happened 5-days apart, one hitting a tree in the back yard, the other hitting one in the front and almost burning my old house down. I have "souvenirs" from the incidents to remind me to live life to its fullest! |
| The Fool: | What has been your best work experience, and what made it so great? |
| tmfparlay: | Working for the Fool as a "remote" staffer. Yup, that means working out of my spare bedroom. It is quite a perk to not have to worry about a) drycleaning b) commuting. The amount of time saved daily is nothing short of amazing. |
| The Fool: | What's your greatest athletic achievement? Little League champ? Ran a marathon? Did 4 consecutive sit-ups? |
| tmfparlay: | Skiing moguls on "Rolex" in Steamboat, Colorado and only missing two turns the whole way down. Don't know if my knees will ever be the same! |
| The Fool: | Tell us about Your Dumbest Investment... and the lesson you learned from it. |
| tmfparlay: | I've made plenty of dumb investments, and plenty of darn good ones, too. The one theme that seemed to run throughout all of my losers was not doing enough of my own, personal research. |
| The Fool: | What is your favorite non-financial website? |
| tmfparlay: |
www.durangoherald.com (funky little local newspaper) www.weather.com (yes, I'm a weather channel freak) www.ebay.com (love to turn "stuff" into cashola) www.travelocity.com (love to travel, too) |
