| The Fool: | What's the best product you use that most people don't know about? |
| tmfrunkle: | My Dynamic Cone Penetrometer. Using ASTM 399A procedures, you can use it to estimate bearing capacity for foundations, density of soils, and angles of internal friction. I use it all the time, but most people are probably ignorant of just what a good instrument this is. |
| The Fool: | How'd you find out about the Fool? (Make your answer as colorful and truthful as possible.) |
| tmfrunkle: | I was using Prodigy (yuck) in the Dark Days™ of the Internet, and my son spent too much time on line. I got a $300 bill, and Prodigy wouldn't let me pay it off over a few payments, so I switched to AOL. In a search for financial sites, I found the Fool. Prodigy almost died (no wonder, they stunk), and AOL grew. The Fool grew too, and now I've been on staff since 1902 |
| The Fool: | What was the most significant discovery of the last century? |
| tmfrunkle: | When I realized I couldn't fulfill my ambition to grow up to be a giraffe. Well, it's the most significant discovery to me. |
| The Fool: | Tell us about Your Dumbest Investment... and the lesson you learned from it. |
| tmfrunkle: | See the answer about the Washington Monument. I learned to check out investments with the Park Police first. |
| The Fool: | If you could use one example from your life to teach a financial lesson, what would it be? |
| tmfrunkle: | I bought the Washington Monument, but didn't realize I needed a special permit from the U.S. Park Police to sell tickets. It was too expensive to go through the process, so I let everybody see it for free. I'd sell the place, but I can't find an interested buyer. It's good lesson in researching your investments first. |
| The Fool: | Which celebrity or public figure (past or present) do you most look like? |
| tmfrunkle: | People always tell me I look like King Arthur. However my son says I bear a stronger resemblance to Lancelot. I'm sure he's right, he's 17 and of course knows everything. |
| The Fool: | What has been your best work experience, and what made it so great? |
| tmfrunkle: | I got sent to the Bahamas for two weeks to manage a project. It was great because the contractor's people weren't available, and I was stuck there. Had to spend the time snorkeling and fishing. |
| The Fool: | Give a short description of your best and/or worst vacation. |
| tmfrunkle: | In hindsight, the "Bangladesh Weekend Getaway Package" wasn't such a good idea. |
| The Fool: | What's your favorite activity (within the realm of good taste)? |
| tmfrunkle: | The good taste part knocks out that answer |
| The Fool: | What's your greatest athletic achievement? Little League champ? Ran a marathon? Did 4 consecutive sit-ups? |
| tmfrunkle: | Avoiding getting beat up on the playground at Our Lady of Mercy for an entire week. |
| The Fool: | If you could be any comic book superhero, which one would you be and why? |
| tmfrunkle: | Bugs Bunny - he's cool, always knows what to do. I once wanted to be Superman, but the X-Ray vision thing would just get me in trouble. |
| The Fool: | Do you have a favorite non-financial website? If so, which one? (TYPE the URL) |
| tmfrunkle: | www.theonion.com |
