(p.s. any recommendations for books/articles to read, to help in understanding some of the things discussed on this board, for someone whose education included only one course on economics using a VERY outdated book? I'd be interested.)

I would HIGHLY recommend the following:

Bad Money -- Kevin Phillips

The Shock Doctrine -- Naomi Klein

Chris Martenson -- Crash Course
