Today L-3 Communications Holdings reported a 35 percent jump in fourth-quarter profits, edging past Wall Street forecasts on record bookings and growth in business with the U.S. Defense Department.

The company reported fourth-quarter earnings of $31.2 million, or 89 cents per share, $0.01 better than the First Call consensus of $0.88, up from $23.1 million, or 68 cents per share, a year earlier.

The company also said it was comfortable with targets of 20 percent growth in both revenues and earnings for 2001, with free cash flow reaching $115 million to $125 million.
