Quantum Snap Server Wins Network World Blue Ribbon Award For Network Attached Storage Appliances

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 9, 2000--

Snap Server Awarded Blue Ribbon for Superior Ease-of-Use,

Simple Configuration, and Best-in-Class Multi-client Support

Quantum Corporation's DLT and Storage Systems Group (NYSE:DSS) Snap Division outperformed six network attached storage (NAS) vendors to win the first Network World Blue Ribbon Award for NAS devices. During testing, the Snap Server distinguished itself from the competition with its simple configuration process and its unique ability to support all major networking platforms. In its first review of NAS devices, Network World showed NAS appliances as affordable and extremely easy-to-use alternatives to traditional file servers for adding storage space to a network.

"The Snap Division is extremely proud to have received the Network World Blue Ribbon Award," said Anders Axelsson, general manager of Quantum's Snap Division. "This award reinforces Quantum's leadership in the NAS market as the Snap Server continues to deliver the performance and client support customers have come to expect from a NAS device."

The Snap Server was praised by Network World for offering the best Web administration interface, easy navigation, and widest multi-client support which includes the ability to share files among Windows, NetWare, Macintosh, and Network File System (NFS) users. In addition, the Snap Server was noted for providing the most sophisticated utility for guiding users through the process of setting up network shared folders.

About Network World's Blue Ribbon Awards

Network World reviews products of enterprise scope every week. The Network World Blue Ribbon Awards are given to the highest scoring product in the publication's comparative product review.

Network World's Test Alliance publishes the results of reviews conducted on network products including Ethernet switches, routers, VLANs (virtual LANs), enterprise SNMP managers and servers. Test results are published each week in Network World, the leading news weekly of enterprise network computing, and on Network World Fusion, the leading network information site for Network IS professionals on the Web at http://www.nwfusion.com.

Snap Server Continues Winning Ways

The Network World Blue Ribbon Award is the latest in a long line of honors earned by the Snap Server product line. Since the Snap Server was introduced in 1998, it has continually been recognized for superior performance by leading industry publications and trade organizations and has collected fifteen awards to date. Recent product awards presented to the Snap Server product line include an Editor's Choice Award from PC Magazine, an Editor's Pick Award and the annual MVP Award from PC Computing; an Editor's Choice Award from Cadence magazine, a Silver Award from Home Office Computing in the annual HOC 100 Editor's Awards, and the Best Product in Hardware Award from the GartnerGroup's VARVision Europe '99 conference.

Snap Server Fills Market Void

The NAS market is projected to reach $6.7 billion by 2003 (Dataquest/GartnerGroup, Dec. 1999). According to PC Data, Quantum currently holds the number one position in the workgroup NAS market (Distribution Hardware Report, March 2000), and continues to lead the move toward alleviating the storage demands placed on a network by offering the simplest and most cost-effective NAS solutions available on the market. A traditional file server can cost from $3,000 to over $10,000, and requires an IT specialist to spend several hours or even days to install. The Snap Server product line is available in 10, 20, 40 and 120 GB models in prices ranging from $499 to $2,999 and installs in minutes.

Product Availability and Warranty

End-users can purchase the entire Snap Server product line through their local VAR or leading catalog resellers. The Snap Server product line is available for North American VARs through Ingram Micro and Tech Data, Quantum's authorized distributors for the Snap Server products.

Snap Server customers can also rely on Quantum's best-in-class service and support. The product line comes with a three-year limited parts and labor warranty, a 30-day money back guarantee, and advanced Web support tools. Toll-free telephone technical support is available for North American customers Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. PST.
