Investments in technology are supposed to improve business, right? Well, as companies implement various systems from the likes of Sun Microsystems (Nasdaq: SUNW), BEA Systems (Nasdaq: BEAS), Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL), Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT), and so on, things sometimes get worse, especially from a standardizing perspective.

That's a big advantage for a company like Quest Software (Nasdaq: QSFT), which develops solutions to help improve a company's IT infrastructure in terms of efficiency, reliability, and security. Quest's first-quarter results suggest that clients are happy with the company's work, and its latest acquisition will especially help target troubles with Microsoft components...
