" still am considering what to do with the 401K from my prior

I rolled mine over into an IRA with Vanguard. All index funds.

The 401K management fees were too high, but as long as my employer would match, and as long as the 401K additions were tax-delayed, why not?.

Count Upp "

this is one of the things I am considering - but DW does not
feel comfortable with that approach. She wants to have someone to
talk to about the funds and income and she does not seem
at ease without a regular contact. So we are looking at a fee-paid
adviser. DW has to be able to handle the approach should I pass
away first. I could set up a trust with one of our boys as a
trustee - but somehow I hate to put that much pressure on the
kids - or tie them down that much.
