Bingo. The Senator did not comprehend the universality of this human right until it affected his own son. All too often conservatives can't or won't comprehend human rights unless and until they are personally affected.

This is a recurring theme - ranging from the millions of conservatives who are among the 'working poor' and retires who simultanously deride the 'worthles 47%" of which they are a member, oppose gay rights until a loved one comes out of the closet, want zero tolerance for DUI's until their son or daughter drives drunk at which point they hire me to defend them and blame the college party that got them drunk, those who deride Obamacare and then whine when they are denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition, and those who want to cut spending on 'entitlements' but not to the Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid to which they are entitled.
