"Counterproductive" for whoWell in point of fact for the steelworkers, one Canadian steelmaker I've recently had contact with sends 60% of their production south and is trying to increase this, I suspect similar numbers are true across the industry. Offshore stuff isn't really that much of a deal these days, Stelco aside, what's left of the industry is driven by specialty products and the competition there is south of the border. If we slap tarriffs on the yankees, who are most assuredly dumping they'll do the same so fast...Furthermore for the lumber workers, wheat farmers and any number of other industries embroiled in trade disputes at the moment. We must be really careful to not get caught in a double standard situation or any hope we have of using the WTO to accomplish anything goes out the window.
