"Drivers just do not see bikes."

Might need to be modified to "Drivers don't recognize bikes? As far as that goes, I've failed to recognize a car!

Came up to my normal 4 way stop on the way to work one morning, in my PU, saw nobody, took off, SPLAT, flat hit the side of a car coming from my right. Never saw/recognized he was there, much less moving, entering what was about to be my space. No cell phone, awake, pretty much, but totally blanked it out.. Looking back, maybe the rear view miror blocked him a bit, but as far as I was concerned at that instant it was clear.. Never happened again, but..
