Yeah see I didn't have the same response to that story like the general public did. "Pink Slime" is a derogatory term that was made up for a product that is perfectly acceptable and helps the texture and helps preserves ground beef. They only add it in small amounts but it makes the ground beef stick together better, reduces bacterial growth, and I think actually improves the "bite" of the ground meat product.
