I retired around the same age. If you can really afford it go for it. Being retired is awesome, especially the sleeping late in the morning and taking afternoon naps.

And oh yeah, not fighting rush hour traffic every morning.

And no I haven't regretted it. Why would anyone regret it? Who likes having a boss? No one!
