"Most of the file-sharing activity is among the very young. These are the folks with lots of time and little money - exactly the sort that are most likely to shift their consumption patterns away from buying and towards "free.""

Still doesn't make it any less illegal, though. That's like saying when your 5 year old put some candy in his pocket from the corner store and walked out without paying, that because he's young and doesn't understand, it is OK to do. Doesn't matter whether your 5 or 50, downloading files without the copyright owners permission is theft, any way you slice it. I'm not saying that I agree with RIAA's perspective on why sales are down - I realy believe it is because in general, the state of "new" music is pretty pathetic. (The most recent thing I bought is an acoustic CD by Austrailian guitarist Tommy Emmnanuel. Likely won't be a big seller though.) But it still doesn't make free filesharing right.

I heard Don Henley say that he can clearly own real estate and property, pass that along to his kids, and there is no question about his right to own the land, and dispose of it as he sees fit. On the contrary, he said, people seem to view his songs as being "up for grabs", and that they should be able to do what they choose with his songs. He has a point.
