"My DIL had genealogy connections to a town near Mt. St. Michel called Ducey, and our driver took time to visit. Went into the church, in the center of town, found some great uncles listed on the WW1 memorial killed in the trenches in 1917." - mcbdds

My maternal grandfather fought against the Russians as a German soldier during WWI. My mother was born in Germany in 1917. The family came over here to the United States in 1928.

My mother's brother, Uncle Henry, was a medic during WWII in Europe. He married a German girl after WWII, Aunt Ruth. He spoke fluent German because that is what they spoke at home.
