"Never linked up to Hondas, well, one, a Trail 90, "

IIRC that was what our uncle first bought and got me and my younger brother riding. Brother bought a Honda 90 and then I started with a CB160. Small, but we had fun with them. He went down on some oil on the road and got his leg jammed under the exhaust pipe, took a while to get freed while smelling the cooking flesh! I see youngsters starting out with 600 sport bikes and wonder about the wisdom of that.

When my brother came home from the army, amazingly they discharged him with his leg still in a cast, we decided to take a ride. He busted the cast off his leg just before we left, he on his CB350 and me on my CB450. First leg, no pun intended, was down the PCH to Newport Beach. From there it was over to Death Valley where we found the campgrounds closed for the season, this was in May and I guess it gets too hot during the day by then. Was nice sleeping in the motel, in any case, after the previous wet night spent on the beach at Pt. Mugu.

From there we headed up 395 on our way to Yosemite, except when we got to 120 we found it still closed due to snow so we continued North and that was when we met the cows on 89. We hoped to go over Kit Carson Pass on 88 but it was closed also, so on we went. Finally hit 50 and from there over to 49 and down to Sonora, that was a long day in the saddle ;-) Spent the night there and then on to Yosemite. It was a time when hippies were living in the park during the summer. We shared our camp with several as well as some suppers. It was a good trip and done on what today would probably be considered bikes too small for traveling.

May the Good Lord bless all your travels no matter the distance,

Ken
