"What is amazing is that the Dow was at 13,930 at the end of September, 2007, hit 7062 at the beginning of February, 2009, and last saw less than 10,000 at the end of June, 2010. How do you figure that it took 17 years?"

Before it got to 13, was 10,000 back in 2000

If you invested your money in a fund that tracked the SP500 years and years ago, like intercst and tele...... by 2000 the DOW reached 10,000

It took 17 years before it reached 20,000

Now, if you had a crystal ball, sold all your stock at the end of Sept 2007, paid the cap gains tax, let it sit in a money market account till Feb 2009 where you dumped it all back in stock, you would have done very well. You would have easily tripled your money.

Did you sell all your DOW stock in 2007 at the peak? Then buy it back at the trough? You would have multiplied your money by FOUR.

I bet you don't know a single person, or know of a single person, who succeeded in doing that.

Of course , with dividends the results would have been even better.

However, for anyone holding LONG TERM stocks, whether DOW or SP500, it took 17 years for the index to double. Obama didn't perform any miracles.
