"Why don't liberals have a similar concern for "unfunded" non-defense spending?"

Name some. Not "liabilities 20 years from now" but off the books unfunded like the wars were.


Oh, you are talking *THAT* nonsense again. I really wish liberals would learn how the budget process works.

The war spending is not "off the books." It is reflected on the books in historical spending. It just wasn't submitted as part of the President's budget. Instead it was funded through separate appropriations. Such appropriations are reflected in spending, however. If they weren't, *none* of the discretionary spending over the last few years would have been reflected in spending "on the books," since we haven't had a budget voted into law for a few years. Our "books" would have shown a budget that was nearly balanced.
