From a restauranteur's point of view:
Sysco may be THE juggernaut in the foodservice industry as far as investing is concerned, but it is lacking in basic service at the local restaurant level.
Having encountered their sales staff in three different states, I am baffled by their continued profitability. The sales reps were not as educated in helping manage small foodservice outlets, had less than expected knowledge of specific ingredients & quantity purchasing, and were excessively pushy in ordering "hot items" as mandated by management. And that's just the problem with the local reps...
TMF taught me to invest in what I know. I'd want to know the restaurant retention rate before I let Sysco use my money and I'm not sure that's a number they want to publish.
(no, I don't have a vested interest in any foodservice company)
