Rebecca, thanks so much for your thoughtful response. I was planning to copy a whole bunch of it and respond, but basically it's all just fabulous input. Assuming that it's okay, I'm going to print out your response and bring it for some discussion when I see my therapist again because I think at least some if it is almost duplicative of what I go through at times.

Also, I don't smoke personally, but I do know some people who smoke and you made me realize that for at least a couple of them, it's not just simply a matter of nerves since they say it helps them relax, but it literally helps them to think better (at least one has said that to me pointedly). It makes perfect sense with what you are telling me.

Otherwise, I'm going to do more research into the meds and discuss them, too.
