I noticed that very few messages on this board have been recommended. Is this because none of the posts are worth reading or do people posting here not know that they should recommend good posts?

There are outstanding posts on some boards that get maybe 2 or 3 recs. And there is absolute garbage on some boards that get 15 or 20 recs. Stars and recs are taken seriously by some and put down as a big joke by others. I find them to be somewhat comical. But TMF likes them and they make the rules.

Greetings BigTymer2,

Combination along with I think fewer people reading posts here compared to other boards where there are bigger communities of people watching the boards, eg LBYM and REHP are classic boards with tons of recommended posts while Ask a Foolish Question and this one tend to get rare recommendations.

This board tends to see:
- a few regulars who are usually knowledgable and post often, usually with answers to questions - a lot of people who pop in for one or two questions and then vanish - not a whole lot of lurkers
For instance, when the tax reform law passed, Pixy wrote an article, and it was referred to. We didn't discuss it back and forth.
So by its nature, the board doesn't promote the type of behavior that generates rec's.

I tend to agree with your first 2 points but am not sure about the third. I think there may be more lurkers than you might think. I believe this to be one of the "higher class" boards with a number of very knowledgeable and informative regular posters either initiatiating a thread or responding with helpeful information. And I agree that probably the nature of the board does not promote rec's. But in lieu of many rec's I could have given to many posters on this board let me just give a BIG THANKS to many things I have learned here. And if you think that rec's are a direct measure of the quality of the post --- take a trip over to the Gimmie my Stars, and Gimmie my Rec's boards.

I can assure you that rec's have NOTHING to do with the quality of the posts. If you want a searing example, check out the current events board. There are threads there with as many as 50 posts, in which members of the board bash each other back and forth, recc'ing posts which agree with theirs. It's really sad, because even some of the most prolific posters there are intelligent and could have a lot of quality input if they didn't let themselves get mired down with bickering.
Number of recc's means nothing....quality of posts means so much, especially to us newbies!
Happy New Year to all!
