Cummings writes:The Preservation and the Perseverance of Believers.Once we believe, we will be kept by God and persevere in faith to the end. This doesn't mean we may not fall into sin. As Spurgeon put it, we may fall many times on the deck of the ship of life, but we shall never fall overboard (See Psalm 37:24). God doesn't cast off those whom he has loved. He doesn't undo the work of grace he began. Here are some passages that cleary teach this: "I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand" (John 10:28). "Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus" (Philippians 1:6; 1 Peter 1:5). "I am convinced that neither death nor life; neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8:38,39). The God who begins our salvation will see it through to the end, in order to receive our praise forever (Romans 11:36).Rick
