Regarding bandwidth - I have Comcast Internet - my bandwidth blows my neighbor's DSL off the planet. You just have a neighbor with more band width.

Second issue - your Mac switching. You can control that easily. OSX will not connect to any network that is not listed in Network Preferences. To limit the list of networks your Airport will connect to:
#1 Open Network in System Preferences
#2 Click Advanced
#3 Select any network in the Preferred Networks window and click the "-" sign.

dont think i want to get rid of the neighbor's ....since it's faster i might want to use it for large downloads ...

just wondering why it's sometimes picked up and sometimes not.
