I alerted Intuit to this issue in years past but they did nothing.

putting money(or some of it) in a trad IRA can make the difference between getting the credit or not.

Turbotax will not tell you of this possibility if you tell it you've contributed money to a Roth and don't qualify.

It's also why it can better to wait until you do your taxes to decide where and how much to put in which kind of retirement account.
