RHinCT,There is of course something you can do about that, work for a company that has a safe-harbor provision, which means HCE compensation does not apply. Or lobby your HR to change the 401k plan. I used to be subject to HCE limitations too back from 2000 through 2004, but no more since working at different companies. The ability to contribute more has really made a difference in my retirement nest egg, despite very variable returns.
