Rich, (believe it or not), I'm not a big fan of long plane trips. What we've found is that often the price of a trans-oceanic "repositioning" cruise is about the same price as a business class seat. Assuming you have the time, and assuming you opt to take the points as cash (to use for the payment), it's a lot more interesting and restful to hop from island to island on a ship while on the way to your actual destination. (An example was our January 2017 cruise from Ft. Lauderdale to OSaka, Japan which took 37 days and cost about $3,500. We weren't particularly interested in seeing Guam and Saipan, et al again, but it was better than a stick in the eye and we did get to Asia in style).
