Right now, I have 6 URLs/sites that I would like to host using just one plan… (actual individual sites, not just redirects or pointers).

Very easy -- I do that now myself. Multiple domains, different websites for each. You can set up as many folders as you need, and define any folder as the "home" folder for any given domain.

When I log in with my FTP client, I see folders named:
etc., etc.

Each of those folders contains the website with those domains. (You create the folders yourself, and can name them whatever you like, but I think it makes sense to name the folders with their matching domains.)

I need an SSL certificate and I'd prefer to have private domain registration. TIA.

They charge $49/year for SSL (though it's "free" in the more expensive accounts). I can't give any opinion about SSL because I've never used it on my websites.

Private domain registration is free, too. (Though it's not the default -- you must explicitly choose it.)
