Romney and Ryan walk up to the podium and everyone cheers...RYAN.
JamesBrown:
Which would probably spur Ryan into sketching out a 2016 Presidential bid, an excellent fall-back plan if Romney loses in 2012.

That would be quite the conundrum for Ryan. Either work as hard as he can to be the Vice President for the next four to eight years, serving under a man he refers to as "The Stench"; or start the groundwork to be President in four years, when he won't have to run against Obama.
...............................

Since you mention it, I will tell you that Lawrence O'Donnell has a running rant about how losing VPs do not become President. I believe he claims never. But I wasn't sure so I looked it up. This article also shows Ryan's chances of becoming President after being a winning VP.

BTW I love Nate Silver. Most boring guy on the planet, but he really knows statistics and how to crunch the numbers.

What Are Paul Ryan’s Chances of Becoming President?

Of these 28 men and women who lost their vice-presidential bids, only nine later ran for president. Only three of them later won their party’s nomination, and just one — Franklin D. Roosevelt — later won the presidency.
