Rose (or Ro as some call her) is just an employee. The proprietress--Angela, who's married to one of the brothers who are among the owners--had worked behind the counter for years, till she finally got pregnant. Rose is not really "just" an employee in the common sense. She is amazing!
The woman in her 40s or early 50s who usually waits on me there? Acts like she owns the place! A guy making fresh mozzarella in the back came in front to have her inspect his work before continuing ;-) Although I shouldn't eat the gluten, I impetuously purchased one of their fresh mozzarella sandwiches with marinated peppers and parsley on a chewy Italian roll...deelish!
ASIDE Speaking of food, there was fresh wild flounder on sale at Whole Foods today, so instead of my usual salmon, I picked up 6 smallish filets (3/4 lb total). And I fried them (speaking of evil-) in my newly purchased organic, expeller-pressed sunflower oil. OMG...SO sweet, with just a squeeze of lemon, with some fresh asparagus I got from a street vendor (also in the Village yesterday). I need to recover for a while before digging into cucumber salad. And I have the other 3 filets for tomorrow, this time with some carrots that need using. Life is good :-)
