In December of 1999, I became medically ill.
Each year on January 1, I fund my existing Roth IRA.
for that year.
On January 1, 2000, I funded my existing Roth IRA
with $2,000 for the year 2000.
On January 16, 2000, I applied for Social Security
Disability benefits.
By myself not having any earned income for the year 2000, have I created a problem with my Roth or with the IRS? My spouse does have earned income.

If your spouse has over $2000 of earned income you should be OK. To contribute to BOTH your IRA and your spouse's own, the spouse needs at least $4000 of earned income. Chris
