We had to put our dog down today. Yesterday, he lost the use of his back legs. I was hoping that maybe a good nights sleep would set him straight. I woke up at 3:30 to hear him crying. I got up and tried to let him out but he couldn't stand. I tried bringing him over to his dish but he wasn't even able to sit up. He was in pain. I sat up with him and held him for a while and gave him some pain medicine trying to make him as comfortable as I could. I never really went back to sleep, just wept. In the morning we had the boys say goodbye to him before they went off to school. Leslie and I held him the rest of the time he was with us. I carried him around the yard one last time and then Leslie and I brought him to the vet. He was in pain the whole time and I knew that would be the only way to relieve him. We stayed with him until he was gone. We've had a heck of a run on kleenex today. We'll miss him. He would have been 16 on May 23rd...
