What follows is my summary of an editorial appearing in Saudia Arabia about one month ago. The summary may not be precise, but the context is apparent: Saudia Arabia Saudi Editorial Lashes at US 'Defense' of US-Made Arms by Israel Riyadh Al-Jazirah Monday August 13, 2001 Richard Boucher, the official spokesman of the US Department of State, has defended the use of US weaponry by terrorist Ari'el Sharon's government in its operations to the physical liquidation of the activists of the national Palestinian resistance movement. Boucher has said to the letter, "Israel's use of US weapons in killing the activists of Palestine does not violate the Arms Export Control Act that stipulates that US weaponry is sold only for uses of legitimate self-defense." Boucher added, "the US objections to targeted killings reflect a political determination and not a legal determination on whether Israel is violating US laws." This official US defense of Israel's use of US weaponry -- including F-16 fighter- bombers that are the most sophisticated in the world -- came in reply to and in comment on a recurrent complaint made by Palestinians, Arab Americans, and Arab governments to President George W. Bush's Administration. This repeated complaint is about Israel's use of US weaponry that, in addition to F-16 fighter bombers, also include US-made Apache helicopters and other lethal weapons that are used to liquidate and kill Palestinians. No rational analyst or sane observer can explain or understand this US defense of the physical liquidation of Palestinian resistance activists. No person in his right mind can justify Israel's use of US weapons in this fashion. The only explanation that can be given to this US defense is that it is trying to justify the traditional US bias for Israel to which the decision-makers in Washington seem to be unable to set a red line. The decision-makers in Washington are unable to liberate themselves from this prejudice and from the Jewish lobby that is influencing their policy in the Middle East. This US bias in favor of Israel does not recognize even the rules of sound logic. It disregards and insults the minds of others. The official spokesman of the US Department of State says, "US laws that regulate the export of weapons stipulates that these weapons would not be sold except for legitimate self-defense." Does the mind and does the conscience of this spokesman believe that Israel is exercising a legitimate right to self-defense when it physically liquidates Palestinian activists who are resisting against the Israeli military occupation of their lands? Moreover, with what right does Israel occupy the lands of an entire nation? What right entitles Israel to confiscate the national and human rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to resist against occupation, and then besiege and kill this people under the pretext of legitimate self-defense? Are the most sophisticated F-16 fighter- bombers and the horrifying Apache helicopters that attack tanks and armor defensive types of weapons? Do US laws regulating US arms sales to Israel permit the use of such weapons against the Palestinian people? Resistance against an enemy that usurps a homeland or that occupies parts of its land or that confiscates the rights of its people and drains their mineral and water resources and farms is a legitimate resistance. The charter of the United Nations and all international laws do not consider this legitimate resistance as "terrorism" or "unjustified violence" that should stop before a move is made toward peace. Finally, if this US defense of the state terrorism that is being exercised by the government of veteran terrorist Ari'el Sharon may purport to ignore any firm reaction by the Arab rulers. However, these rulers will be forced one day to explain to their peoples why they remained silent regarding this US defense of Israel's crimes against humanity. However, if the purpose of this US defense of Israel's terrorism and murder of the Palestinian people is to provoke and arouse the antagonism of the Arab political street, this purpose has already been realized! The decision-makers in Washington will have to be aware that this provocation and hostility will transform into actions on the Arab situation in the Middle East. END OF SUMMARY.PERHAPS THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION SHOULD CONSULT WITH FORMER SECRETARY OF STATE BAKER(1ST BUSH ADMINISTRATION) WITH REFERENCE TO THE AFGHAN FREEDOM FIGHTERS AND THE USE OF US WEAPONS. HE OVERSAW THE TRAINING OF THE FREEDOM FIGHTERS AND THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE WEAPONS TO THEM. AND, IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT HE WAS INVOLVED IN RECRUITING THE SAUDI, BEN LADEN, AS ONE OF THE FREEDOM FIGHTER LEADERS.ANOTHER WAY TO LOOK AT THIS PROBLEM IS: "PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN GLASS HOUSES SHOULD NOT THROW STONES"
