My in-law parents bought our daughter Series EE savings bonds when she was growing up. She used those to help pay for college. The total tax on the interest of those bonds came to over $500. Does she have to claim that as taxable income? I thought I read somewhere that if savings bonds are used for education, the interest can be excluded from taxes.
