An article in the Jan 17 issue of BusinessWeek told of Schlafly Beer, a microbrewery in St. Louis that works under the umbrella of Anheuser Busch, the nations largest. Schlafly's brew pub is just 3 mi from AB headquarters.

Founded in 1991, they claim to sell 1.5% of the St. Louis beer market compared to 68% for AB. But they have done quite well now that AB was acquired by InBev and cost cutting that put quite a few loyal AB employees on the street. In '09, Schlafly made 31,000 barrels.

Actually their main brewery is on Southwest Ave. in suburban Maplewood in a former Kroger store, where they do brewery tours and serve food and beer.
