I would like the search capabilities to have some options. The best would be "all fool" or "this board". I find that if I am looking for a post with some term in it that I saw, say a month ago on the FooFoo board, I will get results from the entire fool, which can be tedious to look through. So that would be cool ;-)
When you enter a search, when you get the first set of results there is a page with multiple options, including limiting the search to the boards, or articles, or several other options. This is what I got when I entered foofoo.http://boards.fool.com/search/solr.aspx?q=foofoo&datasou...NancyThe word "foofoo" doesn't appear because there's a lag time before the indexing takes place.
In addition to what Nancy said, if you do the search from the board subject list you only get the results for that individual board. You can do that from your favorite board list or just click on the name of the board if you are already at the board you want to searchHere is where you starthttp://boards.fool.com/improve-the-fool-100007.aspx?mid=3028...Then put in your search word. I used Nancy.http://boards.fool.com/search/solr.aspx?q=Nancy&datasour...You can then enlarge the search to All BoardsJean
Sure, but I only want to search "this board", not everything and when I get 5000 results for "IBM" I only want to look at the ones from "this board" that I am sitting on and starting the search from, not from "all discussions".Thanks.
One point that is confusing this discussion is that search works differently on the public boards compared to the private boards that are part of paid services. For example, the feature mentioned where the initial search started within a board is limited to that board, but the initial result set has a check box that lets you change that, only applies to the paid boards.RH in CT

If you are saying the feature where you can limit your search to only that board but then if you want to expand it to all boards by changing the choice in the check box is only for paid boards, then that would be incorrect. I can do it on the public boards.
Yes, you understood what I was trying to say.I can do it on the public boards.Interesting. I haven't found any way to do that. Here's something I tried. At the top of the page where I was reading your message, in the "Enter keywords or ticker" box, I entered "public board" without the quotes and clicked Search. The page that came back includes results from many boards. To the left of the list of matches is a box "Refine by Type". There are seven choices, of which only Discussions is checked. Nothing I have seen relates to searching a single board.RH in CT
Nothing I have seen relates to searching a single board. You can't search a single board while reading a message on that board. You need to be viewing the list of posts on that board for the search to be limited to that board.PSU
Learn something every day. Thanks for educating me!RH in CT
You can't search a single board while reading a message on that board. You need to be viewing the list of posts on that board for the search to be limited to that board. This does seem to work. Thanks.
