Seems like the second trial in the Vioxx story isn't going well for Merck...Unfortunately, They want Merck to pay, and this judge is probably sympathetic to They's side. Conspiratorial as it may sound, They is that part of America that feels capitalism and corporate profits are the twin evils of our society. Merck was both right and wrong in pulling Vioxx. Right in that they obviously believed some Vioxx takers were being harmed, wrong in that pulling the drug was an admission of guilt and subsequently they will lose some suits. We have learned from our elected political establishment over the last few decades that you must never ever admit wrongdoing if you are to avoid the worst, even in the face of obvious evidence. This is the way the game is played. MO didn't admit it and has gone on to prosper. PFE is playing the game correctly also. As a doc who can read between the lines on the presented research, I guarantee you the same evidence could be found against PFE that has been presented against MRK, yet PFE isn't having to fight it out in the courts.I haven't purchased any MRK in years, and don't plan to presently, though their recent success with the HPV vaccine shows the company still has what it takes. I'll give it some more time, maybe when the "B" word starts getting seriously thrown around.ab
