My 2013 audi A8 has adaptive cruise control. It brakes and speeds-up to keep me a given distance from the car in front. It will completely stop the car if needed and it determines the safe distance between cars based on my speed selection and the speed of the car in front. In addition it tells me by steering wheel vibration if I go over the lane markers on either side and alerts me by led lights on review mirrors if someone is in my blind spot (no more turning around to look). It has an infer-red camera to alert me at night to anything (like deer or human) up to 900 feet ahead of me. The only thing it doesn't do is steer the car!! I love all the technology and the adaptive cruise control has save me about 10% time on long trips and I am not nearly as tired when I arrive. Our brains are not very good at braking and accelerating using the normal cruise control
