In 2009, Jim shared his implementation of the "Sell in May" system in this classic post http://boards.fool.com/sell-in-june-and-go-away-27760614.asp...The system is based on one popularized by Sy Harding here http://www.streetsmartreport.com/sts The system performed pretty well"out-of-sample" as you can see from Jim's updates like these:http://boards.fool.com/seasonal-signal-28858197.aspxhttp://boards.fool.com/seasonal-timing-system-29254430.aspxhttp://boards.fool.com/sell-in-june-signal-says-quotbuyquot-...Next week will be the earliest date for re-entering the market. Several methods have been proposed to optimize the entry date, including MACD crossover on S&P500, DJ, or Eq Wt S&P500 (Jim's favorite), or a "NHNL Rising" signal described by Jim at the "Sell in June" post above. Per the link Jim shared at that post, it looks like NHNL Rising is already bullish http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=$NAHL&p=D&yr=0&.... The S&P500 rallied >15% from its bottom in early June to the peak a month ago, so this entry makes me nervous, although it let off some steam over the past couple of weeks.
