***She has allotted 500 bucks per month for the groceries. Is it possible to trim that down to 300 per month, with a a family of five? Three little girls (ages 5,7 and 9) and then her and I. I don't know the cost of groceries in your area. $300 seems a little aggressive, for a household of 5 with 3 pets. (The ignored rabbit should be allowed to find a better home.)Ask you wife to give you all grocery receipts. You should make certain she understands that they won't be for criticism, but for your education. You aren't ready to actually do the grocery shopping, but reviewing the receipts will give you an idea of food costs and the quantities that your household is using. Some maintain a price book, so they know what items are cheaper at which stores and when a sale is a good sale. The other item to review is to look at what food is being wasted. At times buying smaller quantities can be cheaper because it isn't possible to use all of perishable items.
