I am currently scanning my mom's old photos, a few at a time, and fixing them up with photo-editing software. They are stuck in those old "magnetic" albums, and are rapidly deteriorating, so I'm doing this mostly for myself, so I can enjoy them on CD in the future!Anyway, it's really interesting how uncluttered the 1960s photos are, even though they lived in a TINY house by today's standards. 1.) There is only one telephone, and it is mounted on the wall, out of the way. (In my house now, we have 4 landline phones and 3 cell phones.)2.) There is no computer, no monitor, no scanner, no printer, no cords everywhere. Just a nice big desk with a lamp, a pen holder and a blotter on it! (In my house today we have three PCs, one printer, one scanner, one laptop, one wireless network router, yadda, yadda, yadda. OK, I work at home, but still!)3.) There is only one small, black and white TV in the corner. No VCR, no DVD player, no cable box. OK, there are rabbit ears. (In my house we have one big TV and two smaller TVs, one VCR, one home entertainment system, one DVD player, and 80 million cords all over the place.) 4.) In the kitchen, there is just a stove with a coffee pot on the eye, a sink, and a refrigerator. No microwave, no George Foreman grill, no toaster oven, not even a dishwasher!(In my house now we have a dishwasher, counter-top microwave, toaster, coffee maker, etc. And my kitchen isn't much bigger than hers was!)5.) There is one cabinet-style stereo, with a few albums in the other side of the cabinet.(In my house we have one mini-system, one component stereo, one boom box, a kitchen radio/CD player, a bedroom radio/CD player, etc. Hundreds of CDs. More of those dang cords!)I could go on and on, but it is amazing to think how much more STUFF we have packed into our houses that is considered to be perfectly normal that no one had 40 years ago! Think how much easier it must have been to dust and vacuum without all that electronic equipment around making our lives "easier."I'm just saying, that's all!bookaholic
