Since I worked alongside some of the scientists at JPL who were doing the actual research, and have seen them scared s**tless at the data, I can unequivocally state that the person writing the blog has placed his head in a position from which no surgeon will be able to extricate it.

Moreover, glancing at some of the rest of his rantings, it is clear that the idiotlogical source of his condition is basically that he is a "big L" Libertarian... and so the possibility that there exists some additional reason for government to interfere with individual freedoms and decisions is anathema to him.

Understanding science and scientists, one has to wonder at the motivation for creating such a massive lie. The scientists do not gain from it, particularly in the current environment, but they aren't that political. The fact that the blogger sees this as some sort of conspiracy to lie about the science speaks volumes. Searching through the exxon-mobil links however, yields a rather disturbing alternative explanation, as most of the debate on the anti-warming side seems to be funded by XOM.

Does it make more sense that almost every climate scientist on the planet has somehow joined in an unholy alliance to seize power, or that a vastly powerful and well-heeled corporation is trying to keep people consuming its products? Follow the money. Don't make up reasons that can't make sense. There is a lie being told, it just isn't the one the blogger wants to know about.

That's the end of the drive-by...

BJ
