Since we're all just guessing at this point, my guess is Zimmerman played the tough guy with Martin, picked a fight (secure in the knowledge he had a gun,) provoked Martin with words, called him some racist name, got a beating for it, felt humiliated and shot Martin in both fear and anger.

That might be self-defense under Florida law, but it's not right.

It'd be interesting have some forensic evidence on this. For example, how close was Martin when Zimmerman shot him? What was the angle? That would tell us (and more importantly, a jury) a lot about the circumstances and whether Zimmerman is telling the truth. Of course, that'd have taken a bit more investigation than it appears the Sanford police cared to do.
