I can't believe that I never posted this the first time I saw it, but I've been hunting on the board and can't find any reference.

There was, for a time, a minor fad called Happy Slapping. There were a number of cases in the UK, and several in Europe, but I don't seem to run across many incidents in the US.

Essentially it works like this. Someone would walk up to some totally unsuspecting person who was absolutely minding his or her own business, slap or hit them, then run away. A buddy of the slapper would film the whole thing, then post it on YouTube.

Possibly the first few times no actual physical damage took place. There would be a furious and shocked victim, and definitely grounds for an assault, sometimes broken glasses, but no actual "let's get you to a hospital" type damage.

And, as always occurs in this type of situation, things got worse and worse. Each group had to out-do the previous group, so real damage began to occur, and things just kept getting worse and worse. There haven't been a lot of occurrences lately, possibly because the kind of people who indulge in this are behind bars.

So here's a clip. This was apparently filmed during the earlier part of the fad, rather than in the real damage period. But it's a wonderful sight to see.
