So how does someone like this get cash these days? Do you actually go in and get it from a teller?

Thats what I do, but it isn't required very often. I have two credit cards with cash back features that I use as much as possible. I only use cash for small miscellaneous type purchases. When I get cash, I get $500 at a time and find that it will last me about three or four months now that I am retired. I can usually time my need for new cash with another necessary visit to the credit union to roll over a CD, so seeing a teller for cash is no extra burden for me.
