So, just what is the board's purpose? To answer answers of a general nature or to explain the new directory structure???? Or, both?

Joining the rest of the cooks in the overcrowded kitchen, I'll add my 2 pinches of salt :)

I see this board being a reference pointer and resource for information that is found in the boards. For instance, if you have an esoteric question about which doohickey you should use in the framble slot, maybe somebody has been there before and can tell you what board is most appropriate for the question (Serving Frozen Seagulls.)

Less facetiously, suppose you just bought a surround sound amplifier and have questions about hooking it up, but don't know where to go. That would be the Help With This Home Theater board ( http://boards.fool.com/Messages.asp?bid=116115 )

The Ask a Foolish Question board has traditionally been more geared to investing and personal finance questions, but served also as a catch-all for lack of a better place. This board is more suited to helping people find the information they need, and the appropriate places for their questions on any subject.
