My wee friend, Willy the rat held on this week while I was away - under the dedicated and watchful care of Schred and Bean (our daughter), he managed to take some food and water and maintain a bit of strength.

Still, when I got home Friday night his breathing was labored.

This afternoon, though, even the medications and the nebulizer failed to work their medical wonders.

Willy just ran out of steam. So I held him for a couple of hours, and then, when it was obvious he was suffering, helped him along to the long sleep.

He was Willy. Wilbus Rattledore, Wizard Rat. The Wildebeest. The Wild Man. He was Adventure Rat with an inquisitive and fearless nature.

He was truly one of the most loving creatures I've ever had the honor of knowing.

Good bye, Willy. I'll miss you.
