Eisenhower thought it was enough in 1960. That would be "General" Eisenhower, World War II hero, who should know something about it.

I'm not sure we need a standing army prepared to fight a two front conventional war in two oceans when that method of warfare hasn't been seen in close to a century. Perhaps we could downsize our hundreds of bases and have a military prepared to fight one conventional war, and upsize if the situation demanded.

One party keeps yelling that government should be run like a business. Would any business keep staffing at 300% of need for 80 years?
