I served in the military for 28.5 yrs and paid social security for most of that time. Then when I retired I went to work for a public institution (a college) where I paid no social security but instead paid into a teacher reitrement fund. Now I'm told by the social security people my social security will be reduced because of my teacher's retirement. They call it a "windfall" benefit. Some windfall!! Had I gone to work in the private sector my social security would not have been affected. What gives??
